Sabre huffed as he saw the last Chim Foo warrior monkeys pass by after talking to him. He once was as young as them, readily fighting evil and honing his powers. However, Sabre had come to a screeching halt when he was separated from cheerful Marco and given to Mayor Bumbee The Third, whom cast him aside.
Sabre remembered running to the docks, to find Marco's ship entering the Duat. He had shouted and threw rocks at the hull of the ship, but Marco hadn't noticed.
The portal had closed with a pop, and he was left for dead.
Journeying through the vast jungles, he had fought Ka's minions and slept under Bayana trees. Oh, how tasty their banana-like fruit were! He also slew birds every once in a while, but he got no pleasure eating their meat.
Afterwards, he had found Soggy Creek, in which he stayed for a while, then journeying to the lands of bamboo, where he was stuck at the highway because the rest of the path was for monkeys only.
Now, he harbored his wounds, wishing Marco would come back one day and save him from his guilt.
Sabre stared at the luminous stars, sighing as he lay back on his bed of bamboo sticks and leaves. It had been a while since it was this clear, since swarms of shadow bats and flying bananas passed over once in a while and obscured Orion, Draco and Aquarius floating like airships above his head.
The Mysterious Warrior, his only company, thought of him as a common robber just because he pillaged the Floating Market sometimes for food and supplies. He had told his story to the senior warrior, but each and every time the monkey would throw back his scarred head and laugh.
"Why, that is a far-fetched story! A far-away land and a penguin! Why, if I told you my mother is a pink unicorn farting pancakes living on a rainbow and licking lollipops, would you believe me? NO! Ha ha ha hap!"
Those words echoed in his mind, ever-so painful. Oh, those mocking words, those agonizing hisses between that miserable monkey's teeth! When he was stronger, Sabre swore on the tip of Moon's tail that he would strangle the Mysterious Warrior with his own whip, and wrap Enzo like a mummy with Enzo's own tongue.
Why Enzo, his forgetful old mind asked himself. Sabre struggled to remember what Enzo had done to him.
When Sabre had journeyed through the woods, his fur sopping wet from morning dew and rain, Enzo had found him and given him a treasure chest full of the rare fruit from the distant world called the Spiral, Yum-yum. It had renewed his youth and made him fully immortal, but they made a local rare fruit merchant that he had stolen some of his stock of Yum-yum fruits despite them being able to spout little wings and fly away, and chased Sabre with a flaming sword.
When he had ran away from the merchant who was ordering him to pay his debt (Yum-yum needs to be smuggled, as the royal family of the Mooshu region of the Spiral kills you if you are found with the sacred fruit, so it is very expensive) and found a place to hide, he had looked in a puddle and sighed, as most of his royal robes had been stripped from him.
Sabre didn't care! The only king of Corax to date (he still kept updated on the news in Corax via travelers) to be rejected by his own people! Even the thirteenth ruler, the only female one, simply named Queen, hadn't been driven out!
Ted, his teddy bear, said nothing as he told his bear his story for the millionth time. Marco had dropped his bear when leaving this wretched, primitive land, and now it was his only true friend. The Mysterious Warrior didn't steal Ted, and actually guarded it carefully, as it had the power of one of Moon's blessings inside it.
Tears ran down his cheeks like marathon runners, as he knew it was hopeless.
But Sabre had to find Marco, he had to.
Quickly stuffing Ted inside his pack, he ran into the forest.
It wasn't until morning that the Mysterious Warrior had found his nest empty the next morning.
