How Gems Came To Jamaa

Animals use gems as a universal currency (actually, in Jamaa and Corax they do, but Ook, Chroland, CP, Enchantix and other animal worlds use currencies such as bananas, diamonds, coins and so on), but how did they come to Jamaa? Why the humble gem coin? Gather round, everyone, as Frost tells the story...

When Jamaa was spun into existence, lush overgrowth and wonderful animals were born. Mira and Zios ruled happily over them, but alas conflict ensued over minor deals. You see, there weren't any sort of standard systems back then, and all things were left to be decided. Jamaa was a primitive place, and Zios often had to leave their home in the heavens, the Sky Mansion, to end quarrels over items. Eventually, the Alphas and the deities were tired of managing things and held a meeting.
Of course, they made it in the newly constructed Alpha hut.
"What currency should we use?" asked Lisa.
"Ooh, ooh! We should use leaves!" Cosmo said.
"No, gears." Graham said.
"No, claws." said Sir Gilbert.
"No, no, no, potions." said Greely.
"Jeez! We should use something easy to find and beautiful yet not too exotic!" Lisa snapped.
Everyone fell silent.
Then, Mira spoke up.
"Liza is right. I suggest we use gems, minted by Graham himself. They would be mined from the mountains, and cleansed by the valley's clean water. Then, Sir Gilbert and Greely can use their mighty claws to scrape them into coin shapes." Mira said, and everyone relaxed into their cushion at the table.
"Yes, lets do that. It sounds like a WONDERFUL idea, my dear Miranda." Zios said, his lips smiling.
Mira and Zios cooed to each other for a moment, and the Alphas just had to look away.
After some silence, Cosmo, the runt of the group, spoke up.
"What will the symbol be, and how will Jamaasians earn gems?" he asked.
"The symbol will be like this-" Greely held up a sign -"and we will distribute gems to Jamaasians every day. We will have jobs for them, and games to earn gems."
Mira clapped her talons.
"Yes, you all have wonderful ideas! We must get these gems into Jamaa as soon as possible!" she said, her eyes twinkling with delight.
