STEREOTYPE: Hawaii is mostly wild animals and plants.
FACT: In fact, Hawaii is home to several bustling resorts and cities, along with their own businesses and neighborhoods!
STEREOTYPE: Americans are obese.
FACT: Yes, most are, but that doesn't mean some of us are slim! (hint hint) Just exercise and eat healthy, and you'll be good! Don't tease anyone for being overweight, though, oftentimes they are working on burning pounds.
STEREOTYPE: Everyone speaks the same language in China.
FACT: No, no, no! There are many small cultures in China, each with a slightly different language! The dominant one is Han, but there are also some like Bai (White) that speak differently! In Hong Kong, in fact, many residents are bilingual, speaking many languages such as English, British English, Cantonese, and Mandarin Chinese!
STEREOTYPE: Minnesota is COLD.
FACT: Yes, during the winter, fall and early spring it is, but summer temperatures have reached over 110 degrees Fahrenheit there! Pack down coats and tank tops if you are moving there.
STEREOTYPE: Texas people say "Y'all" often.
FACT: Not at all! Only rural cowboys (yes, some still exist) still say that, and most speak perfectly normal English! No need to translate, of course.
STEREOTYPE: Chinese people do their old ways.
FACT: Not at all! While there are poor people that still practice old traditions (others only do a few, very few stick very tightly), China is actually a diverse nation of many people, many cultures, and technology. Bullet trains and subways are common due to crowded streets. Still, the Leechee and Dragonfruit here (yes, those fruit exist) are very fresh if you venture into poor areas, freshly picked from the tree if you get there in the early morning.
STEREOTYPE: Hawaii is a place where people relax and surf when they live there.
FACT: Nope. Prices are high, income is low, schools are horrible, and other things. Good for vacations, bad for permanent living.
STEREOTYPE: Hawaiian girls know how to hula.
FACT: Yes, we learn a bit in Hawaiian Class (yes, its an actual subject in Hawaii schools), but most of the time we only hula for projects and in front of the TV. Sorry.
